May Work Session
We had our monthly work session on Saturday. Students from North Atlanta and members of Friendship Baptist Church were on hand to help plant flowers, clean up, and fill bird feeders.
Photo Contest Winners!
The Jennie Drake Park Photo Contest for Kids winners were announced Saturday at the monthly work session. Participants were to take pictures of birds in the park, and correctly identify the birds they photographed.
First Place: Jadae Rashid
Second Place: Syjae Rashid
Third Place: Maci Lauren Wyatt
Winners were presented with prizes and framed photos of their entries.
Work Begins on Path
Work has begun this week on finishing the walking path at Jennie Drake Park. Completion of the path is estimated to take another week. The project is funded by donations and a matching grant from Park Pride. Work on the path is by Ed Castro Landscape.
Earth Day Photo Contest for Kids
The first annual Jennie Drake Park Earth Day photo contest for Kids is underway! Participants in the contests will take photos of birds in the Park, and correctly identify the birds they have photographed. Best photo wins a prize! Registration was Saturday, and the winner will be announced on May 20th at Jennie Drake Park.

Jennie Drake Park Receives Grant from Park Pride
Atlanta, GA, January 23, 2017 – Friends of Jennie Drake Park have announced their receipt of a grant in the amount of $17,631 from Park Pride. This primary use of these funds will be used to complete the installation of a loop trail. In addition, there will be kiosks with maps, signs, doggie stations, wildflowers, and other features to appeal to birds and make the park a more attractive resource for residents of the Collier Heights neighborhood where it is located.
Park Pride is the only Atlanta-based nonprofit that engages communities to activate the power of parks. Working with 90 local Friends of the Park groups, Park Pride is active in greenspace advocacy and educating both civic leaders and the general public about the benefits of parks. Previously, the Jennie Drake Park has received support from Park Pride for beautification efforts and for support to build an entrance to the park (dedicated in May 2015). Other sources of support for building the entrance and the trail have come from the discretionary funds of District 9 Council Member Felicia Moore, from other elected officials, from corporations and also from neighbors and friends.
The Friends of Jennie Drake Park are enthusiastic about the opportunities that this new grant will provide to connect with more neighbors, support better health, and tap into more of the resources which make the community a desirable place to live.
Individuals and families wishing to support improvements in the Jennie Drake Park are invited to come to the park (645 Waterford Road NW – Atlanta, GA 30318) on a volunteer work day (usually the 3rd Saturday) from 9 AM to 12 noon. Cox Conserves Heroes Award for 2016 (Update)
Hello, Friends of Jennie Drake Park!
Thank you for your vote and for encouraging others to vote for me. Some of you have inquired about the outcome of the competition. The Cox Conserves Hero for 2016 was announced on November 15. No, the Jennie Drake Park was not the top vote-getter. Nevertheless, we are still a winner, as we will receive $5,000 for the park. The winner among the three finalists was Linda Cotten Taylor, Chapel Hill Park (DeKalb County); her park will receive an additional $5,000.
We will appreciate your continued support of the Jennie Drake Park. We have regular park work sessions (most 3rd Saturdays from 9 AM to noon). We hope you will be able to join us for a work session. Our next work session will be in January–Monday, January 16 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day). from 9 AM to noon. We also raise money in order to make improvements in the park. Bryan Jenkins Receives the 2016 Chattahoochee River Keeper’s Volunteer Award
Bryan Jenkins, Vice-Chair of the Jennie Drake Park Steering Committee, received this year’s Chattahoochee River Keepers Volunteers Award. The volunteers collect water samples from the creeks which feed the Chattahoochee River. These samples are tested for water quality. By collecting the samples, any raw sewage can be detected and reported to authorities, keeping the sewage spill in check.
